Trekking in a Himalaya – A Naturalist's Trail
Classic Langtang Trek
The trek offer a variety of picturesque villages and breathtaking views of Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and the Langtang Ranges. Central Nepal is a fine introduction into some of the more off-the beaten-path trekking as the terrain is constant, but not too steep, and the altitude is relatively low. Langtang is one of the least trekked, yet one of the most beautiful, trekking areas. Located north of the Kathmandu Valley, the route goes through traditional and ethnic villages and untouched forests on the way to the peaks of Langtang-Lirung. This trek reveals the contrast between the Hindu culture of the Kathmandu Valley and the Buddhist culture to the immediate north of Kathmandu. People of Langtang Valley are basically Tamang ethnicity with strong Tibetan roots and they are believed to be descendants of Tibetan who migrated across the border centuries ago and also their culture, language, religion, and traditions are resemble Tibetan Buddhism. The community suffered immense tragedy during the 2015 earthquake when a massive avalanche destroyed Langtang Village completely with killing hundreds. Despite the loss the people have shown remarkable resilience rebuilding their homes and reviving tourism as a means of sustaining their livelihoods. The highlights of this trek are several day hikes from Kyanjing Gompa along with the typical local cultures of this valley.
