The history of Tsum Valley is strongly blended with Tibetan culture and Buddhism, identified by migration from Tibet and a strong monastic tradition. According to the locals, the Tsum and Nubri Valley, was historically part of Western Tibet's Ngari kingdom. Meditation cave of Jetsun Milarepa and various Tertons (Spiritual treasure revelers) were connected with this region, leaving their presence through traditional folk stories and spiritual treasures. The region's unique culture, dialect, traditional practices like polyandry, and spiritual heritage, was well-preserved due to its isolated area until recent times.
